Description

I normally don't post my homework but I decided to this time because, well...I can. And I'd like to see what kind of response I can get.

Plus our culture has developed a significant hard-on for elaborately detailed, dramatic, and (sur)realistic aesthetics, especially with the increasing capabilities and accuracy of cutting-edge CGI software. So, as a reaction I've been getting in touch with my conceptual side, and have momentarily demoted aesthetics to the bottom of my priorities. I want to be sure my message is supported by clear concepts in the future, so for now I'm strengthening my idea skills.

The irony herein lies in the creation of this work. This is actually an assignment for my Principles of Computer Science class. My professor developed a C++ library that enables graphic programming. He called it GraphiX, and describes it as "a framework for doing graphics and animation using standard C++ within a Windows environment." The assignment is to make a small animated loop (screensaver style) using C++ and the GraphiX library. I had to write the code so as to program the output to draw three polygons in three different colors to make isometric cubes. The program creates each cube through a loop with a counter. Every time a cube is drawn, the counter increases and the position for each of the points on all three polygons in the next cube are mathematically calculated based on the counter in the next loop. This process repeats until the screen is filled.

So, despite everything I just said about the current negligence of conceptualization by the hand of CGI, this image is, in every way, CGI. However, the technology behind this is very primitive- certainly not cutting-edge.

The best part of this is in my opinion, is that the term "FTW" ("for the win" for noobs) originated from Hollywood Squares.

Unfortunately, I can't put the actual animation up (for the time being). Since I used vernacular technology I can't export it into After Effects or save it for Flash lol. I'll have to get a screen-capture program.

I'm allowing a full-sized download for personal use only.
